Page 3             Spain.

This will probably be my favourite page,so expect to see a lot on it .Here you will find links to various pages all relating to Spain, and of course mainly my favourite area of it.Almeria

Almeria is situated in the beautiful region of Andalucia, which is on the south east coast of Spain. It`s climate is warm throughout the winter  (average temperature in the winter is about 16 degrees celcious) and very hot in the summer months (when the temperature can reach the low 40`s) the region was officially classed as desert a few years ago, and today is the largest European desert. Many fruits and vegetables are grown in this region, oranges, lemons, limes, olives, tomatoes (you only have to go into a supermarket like Asda(uk) and you will find something that has been grown in Almeria) to mention just a few. Almeria some years ago (early60`s) attracted the attention of filmakers from as far away as the USA,who discovered that the light and surrounding area bore a remarkable resemblance to there own desert areas of the west, many films were made there over the years and some of the most notable ones ,The Good The Bad And The Ugly (with my hero Clint Eastwood) How The West Was Won, For A Few Dollars More, to mention a few ,with scenes for many others also being shot there, Laurence Of Arabia, Indiana Jones. And it was partly due to the popularity of the area for the filmakers that helped Almeria grow from a fishing port and town into the large bustling city that it has now become today.

Mojacar is undoubtably my favourite place in Spain, with it`s  white villa`s, sandy beach, and the tranquil Sierra Cabrera mountains as a backdrop, it is truly a paradise on earth.I have been going to this area for a number of years now, and since the first time I arrived here about 9 years ago, have been in love with the place ever since, I have no doubt in my mind that one day (soon I hope) Debbie and I will make it our permanent home.

Mojacar itself is split into two area`s, the village area is perched on a hillside overlooking the surrounding countryside, and is most noted for it`s maze of narrow flower decorated streets, while a short distance away is the beach area (playa) one of the lesser know facts about Mojacar is that it is the birth place of Walt Disney .(a fact that will surprise most of you) The most famous family film maker of them all was born in Mojacar ,and moved to America at the age of twelve, to later go on to make his name and fortune in the land of oppurtunity, the usa. It`s also said that he modelled his magic kingdom on his memories of Mojacar as a child.

Mojacar has a very chequered history as do most places in Spain, and as part of this history the Moor`s from Africa have have had  a lasting influence on the area, wherever you go you see domes perched on top of many of the buildings in and around Mojacar, in times gone bye the village was devastated by an earth quake, and still suffers the odd tremor today, (there was a slight tremor while Debbie and I were there this winter, and while quite a few people felt it,I have to say wit all honesty ,that the earth did`nt  move for me) though nothing like the one that devastated it many years ago.
